We were continuing our study of Eve, looking at the Bible Connections section of our workbooks. Following are several of the comments in response to our study and related to the questions from within the text. They are not direct quotes from the ladies, but a synopsis of some of the thoughts during the study.
1. Reading Genesis 2:20-25
God's blessings are profound. Adam had no input on how Eve would be created. Adam probably wouldn't have selected what he needed. In verse 22- God brought Eve to Adam, a gift to supply for his needs. The animals had their mates, but there was no one for Adam. Adam was close to God and most likely didn't even realize his need.
After the Fall he may have thought if she hadn't been brought to him he might not have sinned. But this would be placing the blame on Eve and God. Adam would have to accept the blame for his own sin.
If Adam had asked for forgiveness he could have possibly asked God to forgive Eve and brought her back into fellowship with God. But these are big "ifs".
2. 1Corinthians 11:3-9, 14, 14:34-35 and 1Timothy 2:11-15
Headship means rule and authority. Jesus never placed himself above God, although equal in nature. Eve was equal to Adam in nature, intellect, and peer relationship. But they had different functions- She was a helper, Adam is her protector.
God is a God of Order- He set up the headship of Adam so there would be order. And although man has the headship in the home, if there is an unsaved, unserving spouse, it does not mean that the one will not have independent fellowship with God. God's glory fills each one of us.
God personally shows his attributes within us, and yet each of us is different. Especially the difference between men and women. Each of us is needed.
3. Misunderstanding Eve Genesis 3:1-7 and Genesis 2:16-17 compare
She already misunderstood God's command- Whether or not Adam added to it or not. When we listen to others they may mislead us unintentionally, but God's word is best. We need to go to God! To his words, and in prayer- not to another in his creation.
God's timing is different than ours. And she was unaware that she would eventually die. We listen to the wrong voice, we interpret God's word incorrectly. Satan implied that she may have "mis-understood" what God's words were. We fall to the flesh or lusts. We do what we think is right.
Often when Satan deceives he uses God's truth. A little bit, so we can trust him. Be mindful of God always. We sometimes get focused on the things we can not have.
She had no reason to think about the evil and deception that was before her (Don't talk to strangers)
4. Genesis 3:4-5
Satan's promise to Eve.
You won't die, your eyes will be opened, she would be wise like God, she would know good and evil.
They had knowledge and thought and had some concepts, but did not realize the consequences.
Satan was there telling her what he himself wanted! Satan wanted to be like God and if he couldn't have that then he would hurt God through God's creation. Satan didn't really care what would happen to Eve, but he did want to destroy God's plan.
Kim (Colleen) Thank you so very much for taking notes during our study time and then recaping as you are doing on the blog. You are truly capturing the depth and attitude of the godly women we are studying God's Word with. Praise to our Lord for the gentle ways in which He prepared each of the hearts of us who are part of this Bible study group thanking Him for those who will join in the weeks to come. I can't think of a better place to be at 9:00am on the 1st and 3rd Saturdays of every month! Shera
