Wow Ladies Meeting-
Wait Upon the Lord
Isa 30:18
the LORD longs to be gracious to you;
he rises to show you compassion.
For the LORD is a God of justice.
Blessed are all who wait for him!
NIV
Waiting upon the Lord, that is what I want to speak to you about today.
God desires us to depend upon Him, through all the situations in our life. To rejoice that He will lead, that He will take care of us, that He will solve our problems and give us our hope. IN HIS TIMING
Sounds good, but waiting is very hard to do.
God has His timing, his way, his answers. They don’t always match up with our ways, our timing, our answers. I remember my salvation at the age of 17, and how naive I was, my family was not saved so they didn’t care if I dated a Christian or not. I tended to date Catholic Mexican boys. I guess I like the tall dark and handsome!! I had no clue about religion, but God had a plan. God was already leading my life, I did not know that even then I was waiting upon Him to lead in my life.
I knew this skinny kid in History class, that tended to wear un-matching colors (he is mildly color blind), he was what they call wall eyed, so some people had a hard time looking at him. (Something that didn’t affect me but did affect my girlfriends, they wanted nothing to do with him). He for sure wasn’t interested in school work, and I was a straight A student. A kid that I wasn’t at all interested in dating, didn’t really like, and would not have picked for my life.
The one thing I knew was that I was saved, God did it, and I wanted to serve God, but I didn’t even think about what I was supposed to do as a Christian.
And so, God had a plan, he wanted me to marry a Christian young man, and so he led me to love my husband. We from the very beginning, before we were married, Jon and I went to church, high school and also college together, and I began to understand more and more about my God.
Ps 33:18-22
20 We wait in hope for the LORD;
he is our help and our shield.
21 In him our hearts rejoice,
for we trust in his holy name.
22 May your unfailing love rest upon us, O LORD,
even as we put our hope in you.
More and more had to learn to try to trust God in all things, the more trials and testing we have had to go through. God has led us through hill tops and valleys. Times of poverty and want, and because of these struggles we had to learn to put our trust and hope in Him. Jon went from working in the Navy to working in a hospital. He worked for a doctor who was using expired medicines. Jon had to make a stand for what was right and lost his job. This was a time of difficult trials, A time when we had to trust God to lead us.
A time that led us to the High Desert and Jon started to work with his family in Construction. During this time we continued to go to church and serve God. When Jon was working as a dry-waller, we needed 150 dollars and there was no work. When we exhausted every means that we could to get that money, Jon said out loud, I can’t do it God, you will have to. At that very moment, we got a phone call for work. It paid 150 dollars. God was teaching us to wait upon Him, that he provided our needs, that all things work for good. And He brought us to where we would minister.
Rom 8:26-39
28 And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose
31 If God is for us, who can be against us? 32 He who did not spare his own Son, but gave him up for us all-how will he not also, along with him, graciously give us all things? 33 Who will bring any charge against those whom God has chosen? It is God who justifies. 34 Who is he that condemns? Christ Jesus, who died-more than that, who was raised to life-is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us. 35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? 36 As it is written:
"For your sake we face death all day long; we are considered as sheep to be slaughtered."
37 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. 38 For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, 39 neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
As we learned to trust God with our finances, our family, and our walk, God was teaching me more and more to depend on His timing. Things never came when I thought they should happen, I call them my 5 year experiences. Like when Jon surrendered to preach. Jon had been preaching, teaching and working in the church for many years already. I guess I figured we would walk right into service at another church. Time began ticking away as we waited for God to direct us. Five years had passed and although Jon preached in many churches, he felt that he was not called to be their pastor. I was beginning to wonder, and I was frustrated with the wait. Just then God began directing us to begin a work here in Phelan. To begin a work, not walk into an existing church. We had to learn the struggles of building a ministry.
And to look forward to more 5 year experiences!
God was again teaching us to depend upon Him even deeper in our walk.
During the time we have been in God’s service, we have seen many heart-aches. There have been some that have tried to destroy the work here, and have tried to destroy us with it. Paul understood how man tries to condemn.
1 Corinthians 4
4:1 So then, men ought to regard us as servants of Christ and as those entrusted with the secret things of God. 2 Now it is required that those who have been given a trust must prove faithful. 3 I care very little if I am judged by you or by any human court; indeed, I do not even judge myself. 4 My conscience is clear, but that does not make me innocent. It is the Lord who judges me. 5 Therefore judge nothing before the appointed time; wait till the Lord comes. He will bring to light what is hidden in darkness and will expose the motives of men's hearts. At that time each will receive his praise from God.
Satan is a destroyer, and we know that much of what happens to us is the result of evil trying to prevent God’s work. Men have the propensity to judge one another. We have to remember to please God. It is difficult when things around you are horrible and it feels like there is no escape, all you can do is turn to God and try to trust that He is leading, directing and orchestrating. Sometimes it feels like our problems are unsolvable and unending. Troubles and trials seem to be always near, and we struggle through them.
But God has given us something that the world doesn’t have, and that is faithful Christian friends. As Debbie brought to us last meeting, we need to lift each other up in prayer, everyone in this room is going through the trials and testing of life. Everyone that is a Christian will go through these trials as God teaches us and draws us to him and his will for us. But people will turn on you if you care, and people will slander you. Therefore, look at what is pure, honest, and of good report. Not gossiping or spreading hurt, but looking for the virtue, and looking to praise others. The time of the end of things is near….
1 Peter 4:7-5:1
7 The end of all things is near. Therefore be clear minded and self-controlled so that you can pray. 8 Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins. 9 Offer hospitality to one another without grumbling. 10 Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God's grace in its various forms. 11 If anyone speaks, he should do it as one speaking the very words of God. If anyone serves, he should do it with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen.
12 Dear friends, do not be surprised at the painful trial you are suffering, as though something strange were happening to you. 13 But rejoice that you participate in the sufferings of Christ, so that you may be overjoyed when his glory is revealed. 14 If you are insulted because of the name of Christ, you are blessed, for the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you. 15 If you suffer, it should not be as a murderer or thief or any other kind of criminal, or even as a meddler. 16 However, if you suffer as a Christian, do not be ashamed, but praise God that you bear that name. 17 For it is time for judgment to begin with the family of God; and if it begins with us, what will the outcome be for those who do not obey the gospel of God? 18 And,
"If it is hard for the righteous to be saved, what will become of the ungodly and the sinner?"
19 So then, those who suffer according to God's will should commit themselves to their faithful Creator and continue to do good.
James 5:7-20
7 Be patient, then, brothers, until the Lord's coming. See how the farmer waits for the land to yield its valuable crop and how patient he is for the autumn and spring rains. 8 You too, be patient and stand firm, because the Lord's coming is near. 9 Don't grumble against each other, brothers, or you will be judged. The Judge is standing at the door!
10 Brothers, as an example of patience in the face of suffering, take the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord. 11 As you know, we consider blessed those who have persevered. You have heard of Job's perseverance and have seen what the Lord finally brought about. The Lord is full of compassion and mercy.
12 Above all, my brothers, do not swear-not by heaven or by earth or by anything else. Let your "Yes" be yes, and your "No," no, or you will be condemned.
13 Is any one of you in trouble? He should pray. Is anyone happy? Let him sing songs of praise. 14 Is any one of you sick? He should call the elders of the church to pray over him and anoint him with oil in the name of the Lord. 15 And the prayer offered in faith will make the sick person well; the Lord will raise him up. If he has sinned, he will be forgiven. 16 Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective.
17 Elijah was a man just like us. He prayed earnestly that it would not rain, and it did not rain on the land for three and a half years. 18 Again he prayed, and the heavens gave rain, and the earth produced its crops.
19 My brothers, if one of you should wander from the truth and someone should bring him back, 20 remember this: Whoever turns a sinner from the error of his way will save him from death and cover over a multitude of sins.
NIV
More and more as we continue to walk in service, we find that we must truly look at God. You can do for men, to help in service and to lead them to worship God, but many will turn on you and lash out to hurt. Don’t let this stop you from doing what is right, but let it turn you instead to serving God through what you are doing for others. Then it is an easy thing to serve God, and let man say what he will. As you realize more and more that it is not about us, and it is also not about what others think about us. It is only about God, and he will in return give us the strength to endure all things.
Isa 40:28-31
The everlasting God, the LORD,
The Creator of the ends of the earth,
Neither faints nor is weary.
His understanding is unsearchable.
29 He gives power to the weak,
And to those who have no might He increases strength.
30 Even the youths shall faint and be weary,
And the young men shall utterly fall,
31 But those who wait on the LORD
Shall renew their strength;
They shall mount up with wings like eagles,
They shall run and not be weary,
They shall walk and not faint.
NKJV
Ps 27:13-14
13 I am still confident of this:
I will see the goodness of the LORD
in the land of the living.
14 Wait for the LORD;
be strong and take heart
and wait for the LORD.
